Think like a business owner and look for ideas & opportunities to build relationships. Trainers ask me all the time, how do you get in the magazines? The secret to getting into the magazines is to be great at building relationships and trust by communicating effectively.
Start to think more strategically with your relationship building skills. Remember, everyone’s favorite radio station is WIIFM. What’s In It For Me? Always look for ways to help others. As Zig Ziglar put it, “Help enough people get what they want and you’ll get what you want.” By supporting what others do and showing you value what they do, they will reciprocate.
A great way to connect with people is to tell your story. People remember stories. By sharing why you do what you do through your writing, your conversations and in your marketing, you’ll attract people who are inspired by your story.
As Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” Be sure to surround yourself with supportive people. Being CEO of your career can be lonely and sometimes discouraging. It is important to have people who fill you up, including others who have a success mindset.
